TEN THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME TO BE A SURGEON

TEN THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME TO BE A SURGEON

I was basically inspired by observing other surgeons

  1. How they operate inside the operation theatre and how they present themselves outside operation theatre.
  2. Surgeons are like two faces of a coin

One face is inside the operation theatre where the surgeon performs complex surgeries, leading his operative team as a leader to complete the surgery successfully and other one is outside the operation theatre where the surgeon is like any other doctor but uses a language to make the patient and their attenders understand about the condition , need for surgery, complications.

3. A surgeon may be like a lion inside the operation theatre but can be humble and innocent as a kitten outside the OT.

4. A surgeon is the only person who can treat many of the conditions which can be treated only by surgery and not by any drugs.

5. A surgeon will always have a high level of empathy and sympathy towards his patients and i think it is highest compared to other specialties' in medicine.

If for example, a case of laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been operated by a surgeon in the morning. The surgeon will keep thinking of the case the whole day, whether the patient is fine even while hes going to sleep on that day, sometimes not get sleep at all, keeps thinking about the case the following day and uptil the discharge .

So the surgeon is always at stress just for the sake of his patients and that is truly inspiring.

6. Surgeons undergo the longest and most rigorous training. Residency teaches more than knowledge; it’s about decision-making, leadership and technical skill. surgeons are often stereotyped as abrasive, arrogant, and difficult to work with .

7. Surgeons thrive on chaos and adrenaline and they’re proud of it.

8. In my mbbs days i had seen one of the movie 'the gifted hands' which had also inspired me to become a surgeon.

Biography of Ben Carson who grew up to be Dr. Ben Carson, a world famous neurosurgeon.

9. Surgeons are themselves very traumatized people with forever attitude and ego known as surgeon's ego. They say good things take time that is why it takes years to become a surgeon!!

10.Lastly , this famous surgeon truly inspired me!!

Dr.Leonid Ivanovich Rogozov was a Soviet general practitioner who took part in the sixth Soviet Antarctic Expedition, 1960–1961. In April 1961 he had developed appendicitis while at Novolazarevskaya Station, and being the only medical professional there at the time, had to perform his own appendectomy.
